Destiny 2 – Trials of Osiris Returns
Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris is kicking off today across all platforms following the launch of Season 11 earlier this week. The Season of Arrivals update has brought plenty of changes to the game, including tweaks being made to Trials of Osiris. Trials of Osiris will continue to be matched based on the number of wins on your Passage. While other changes are being made to Trials of Osiris, they should still be kicking off at the same time.

Destiny 2 ‘s Trials of Osiris has been pretty contentious since Bungie reintroduced the top-tier PvP game type in the Season of the Worthy. Since it launched, Trials has seen some troubles, including a big uptick in cheating and a lack of rewards for most players. Bungie has changes planned for Trials in coming seasons which will hopefully mitigate some of those issues.
In a recent This Week at Bungie blog post , the developer outlined troubles it has been seeing since re-introducing Trials at the start of the Season of the Worthy last month. Trials encourages players to try to win seven PvP matches without losing one, and dishes out rewards at three, five, and seven wins. But participating also nets you “Trials Tokens” that you can use to purchase some of that gear, which has led to some high-skill teams playing only their first few Trials matches in order to just earn tokens.
Because of the way matchmaking works, that results in lower-skill teams getting repeatedly stomped on by better players. Bungie said it’s hoping to adjust Trials to make it more rewarding regardless of your skill level, and to encourage you to play even if you aren’t likely to earn a flawless run every weekend. You should feel some value in dipping your toe in each week to see if you can get a little further than last week, to push yourself to improve and get better.
While every single player won’t make it to the Lighthouse, you should feel like you can get meaningful rewards by pushing yourself and still get some rewards for spending time in the activity. Problem: Token Rewards incentivizes players to farm to three wins and reset their card. Bonus Tokens Passage should increase these payouts, and on a flawless run it will generate a significant token payout.

Long rumoured, the game variant is an end-game PVP centric mode focused on 3 versus 3 gameplay and skill, with raid tier drops and an absolute ton of things to get excited about. Last week the first information from the 2nd Destiny expansion, House of Wolves, dropped, showing off the new item economy, weapon and armour growth, as well as a new social area in the previously unexplored Reef. Elimination: New game type, 3v3. No respawns, similar to Search and Destroy in Call of Duty.

The big Destiny 2 news this week was the launch of Season of Arrivals and the reveal of the next expansion, Beyond Light. And the insta-kill grenade launcher , I suppose. But big things are happening in the Crucible, too. Bungie announced today that it’s removed skill-based matchmaking from all of the game’s PvP playlists except Elimination, Survival, and Survival: Freelance.
Bungie said the change was made in response to community feedback, and should shorten queue times, improve connection quality in matches, and will also “play into the strengths of Crucible being a bombastic, frenetic action game,” where the priority is having fun rather than winning at all costs. Trials of Osiris matchmaking will continue to be based on the number of wins on your Passages, Bungie said.
We want the rest of the Crucible to be less of a high-stakes environment where players can have a more relaxed experience and just enjoy the Destiny multiplayer sandbox. The Crucible matchmaking changes are already live, and Bungie said it would keep an eye on the situation and adjust if and where necessary. It also revealed that, just ahead of the launch of Season of Arrivals, it found a bug that enables players to equip all current Charged with Light armor mods on any Season of the Worthy armor pieces, without having previously acquired them.
That’ll be cleared up in the next hotfix, but until that comes Bungie is going to leave it alone, so players can try out the mods for the week.

Why is there no matchmaking option for ToO? Yeah I know, one half brained Bungie employee once said “we will find. You’re expecting too much. You didn’t need to buy anything to play Trials , either. Trials has never had matchmaking , and you can also have a pre-made party. Not everyone is a no -lifer, and getting 3 wins really is not that difficult. I have no illusions of going Flawless or hitting seven wins any time soon.

But there are still some things you can do to give yourself an edge, unspoken rules that even the best players lean on in every match.
It has been quite some time since I last wrote about Destiny. Today I wanted to discuss some of its end game content. Specifically, why Trials of Osiris is brilliant and what unexpected effects it has had on the community. Destiny has taken a lot of flack recently because of the few ways to gain the highest-level gear. The best way is the Raid Challenge modes, where players do a particularly difficult boss encounter a certain way to be rewarded with extra max level loot. The difficulty with having the end game content being against computers is that people can out smart them.
There are endless strategy guides and how-tos, which walk the players through the entire raid. This makes it considerably easier to finish when they know exactly what is going to happen and when it is going to happen.

Bungie has confirmed that some matchmaking changes have been But gamers will have to wait until Trials of Osiris launches to find out.
SBMM has become a semi-controversial topic in multiplayer games, and in Destiny specifically its knock-on consequences have included longer waits for matches and some real laggy laggers lagging up the place. Trials Of Osiris was always based on the number of wins on your ticket instead, and will remain so.
Crucible matches do sometimes suffer with real laggy players from a continent away warping all over; less of that is good. And the waits could be long, no doubt. The idea of removing skill as a factor in matchmaking is more contentious. If skill-based matchmaking is working well, every match will always be a challenge for everyone. Throwing together players of all skills does mean sometimes, yeah, great players might just dunk on the whole server. And some people do always want a challenging match around their level, to not dunk or be dunked.
For them, this is not good news. Lag and queues were bad and I do like variety. Tagged with Bungie , Destiny 2.

Trials of Osiris does not feature any matchmaking. You must have your fireteam set prior to entering. Assuming you do, head to the Director.
Bungie is doing away with skill-based matchmaking for most Crucible modes as it apparently made the experience less enjoyable. Some of the cited reasons are longer queue times and potential lag. The new matchmaking is supposed to be connection-based so we should technically have fewer lag glitches where we keep shooting a Guardian and nothing happens. Similarly, this should help with hit registration but it remains to be seen how the system will work in reality.
For example, the TWAB mentioned that queue times should be lower now but we didn’t experience a noticeable difference so far. The matchmaking change has been applied to all playlist except for Elimination, Survival and Survival: Freelance. These modes will continue with skill-based matchmaking due to the players fighting for Glory as opposed to Valor resets. Similarly, Trials of Osiris will continue to use card-based matchmaking so you rewards will not merely depend on whether you will be queued up with strong players who have connection similar to yours.
According to the TWAB , Bungie are aiming to make Crucible more appealing to casual players as it is now supposed to be a mode “where the outcome of the match isn’t as important as enjoying the experience”. Additionally, they are looking to “play into the strengths of Crucible being a bombastic, frenetic action game”. That description might fit Rumble well but considering Control has more depth built into the objectives, it’s hard to imagine someone is going in for “frenetic action” instead of an objective-based mode.
